Public Transport Project
Modernizing urban mobility in Biratnagar with large buses and upgraded facilities.
Overview
The Biratnagar Public Transport Project aims to modernize the city's urban transit system. As a growing metropolitan city and provincial capital, Biratnagar faces an increasing demand-supply gap in public transportation. The project proposes introducing large buses and upgrading transit facilities to meet the needs of the city's expanding population.
Current Challenges
- Growing gap between transport demand and supply
- Reliance on small vehicles and informal transport
- Limited route coverage across the metropolitan area's 19 wards
- Lack of modern transit infrastructure (bus stops, terminals)
Proposed Solutions
The project envisions a structured public bus network with designated routes, modern bus stops, and larger vehicles capable of serving high-traffic corridors efficiently. This would complement the broader Koshi Podway Project and position Biratnagar as a model for urban transit in Nepal's metropolitan cities.
