Biratnagar Ring Road — 30 Years and Counting
The 42-kilometer ring road encircling Biratnagar was first proposed in 1996 at an estimated cost of Rs 1.30 billion. It received no budget allocation until 2011, and even then, construction never materialized. After three decades of broken promises, the ring road remains Biratnagar's most ambitious — and most delayed — infrastructure project. It resurfaced as a key promise in the 2026 election campaigns, with multiple candidates pledging to finally build it.
Biratnagar Jute Mill Reoperation — Announced for Years, Still Pending
Nepal's historic 1936 jute mill has repeatedly appeared in revival announcements, often through plans to lease operations to the private sector instead of direct state operation. Despite renewed commitments and policy discussions, full sustained reoperation has remained uncertain, making it one of Biratnagar's most symbolic long-pending industrial revival projects.
